Abstract

One of the common disasters that happen in residential and commercial buildings is fire. In the year 2018, from the month of January until February, there were at least 1,758 fire incidents nationwide recorded by the Bureau of Fire Protection. This study is a mixed research which focuses on the fire prone establishments found in Barangay. Paang Bundok. In order to assess the establishments which are fire prone the researchers identified the materials for the establishment’s frame specifically the walls, floor, roof and column. The material flammability was assessed based on a criteria based on Flame-Spread Classification Flame-Spread Rating or Index. There are a total of 651 establishments that were surveyed and observed. Out of these establishments, the researchers found out that there are 48.7% establishments with a low risk of susceptibility to fire, while, 9.6% establishments have a high risk of susceptibility to fire. The researchers decided to conduct a study regarding this topic in order to provide the residents as well as the barangay information and a map that would be vital for their resilience. Based on the research conducted, most of the houses have a low risk of proneness to fire while only a few have a high risk. In order to improve the knowledge of the residents and their awareness to the current state of their establishment, they are highly advised to refer to the map that was made through this research which is to identify the status of their establishments.
